As they ventured deeper into the dark, labyrinthine tunnels, John mistakenly took an uncharted section of the cave for the "Birth Canal" passageway, a tight and challenging route. This was following the death of caver, John Edward Jones, in 2009. The cave they entered was not a well-known one, and its exact location had never been mapped. On that fateful day in November, he embarked on a cave expedition with his brother Josh, but little did they know that it would end in a horrifying ordeal. Jones, known as John to his family and friends, was an adventurous young man with a passion for spelunking, or cave exploration. The mouth of Nutty Putty Cave was sealed with concrete Thursday, turning the cavern’s 1,400 feet of chutes and tunnels into the final resting place of 26-year-old John Jones. John Edward Jones, born on January 21, 1983, tragically lost his life in a harrowing cave incident that unfolded on November 24, 2009, in Nutty Putty Cave, a hydrothermal cave located west of Utah Lake in Utah County, Utah. They entered the cave in high spirits around 8 p.m., looking forward to exploring its famous tunnels but Jones would never make it out. A man tragically lost his life while exploring an unmapped cave in 2009, becoming trapped upside-down and ultimately perishing after a failed rescue attempt. On November 24, 2009, 26-year-old John Jones visited Nutty Putty Cave with friends and family members as part of a pre-Thanksgiving adventure.
